Ruto’s father, Daniel Cheruiyot, passed away in 2008.
Not much is known about Ruto’s six siblings.
One of them is said to be Paulo Martim Ruto. Several blogs have covered his story apparently due to the hardships that he goes through despite his brother being so wealthy and powerful.
“Believe it or not, Deputy President William Ruto’s brother lives under abject poverty despite his blood brother being filthy rich. His name is Paul Ruto… We hope DP Ruto does something about it,” reads a report in one of the blogs.

One of Ruto’s younger brothers – Harrison Kiptoo – died from kidney failure at Nairobi Hospital on Saturday, July 16.
Former National Youth Service deputy director general Adan Harakhe once claimed that another Ruto’s brother wanted a contract awarded to him irregularly.
“Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo-Marakwet senator) visited my office in the company of a person he introduced as Luke Kimutai Samoei, the younger brother of DP Ruto. Samoei requested for business for his company by the name Equity Tech,” read Harakhe’s memo that was produced by former devolution minister Anne Waiguru.
Both William Ruto and Murkomen later denied having any links with the said Luke Kimutai Samoei.
