Deputy President William Ruto has asked leaders to stop politicizing the choice of the new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioners.
Ruto said leaders should stop looking at the new Commissioners from tribal perspectives but as
professionals.
The Deputy President said it was unfortunate that some leaders were now questioning the choice of Wafula Chebukati as the IEBC Chairman simply because he comes from Trans Nzoia as the IEBC Chief Executive officer Ezra Chiloba.
He said despite the process of appointment involving the Opposition, some leaders had made an about turn and started questioning the process.
Ruto said the appointment of Chebukati does not affect Chiloba’s position in the commission as alleged by some politicians.
He said Chebukati and Chiloba were not given the opportunity to serve because they hailed from Western but because they were professionals and up to the task.
“Kenyans should look at the Commissioners from a perspective of qualifications and performance and not
on the perspective of tribes and the counties they hail from,” said Ruto.
Addressing a delegation of leaders from Lugari, Malava and Likuyani Constituencies in Kakamega County at his Sugoi home in Uasin-Gishu County, the Deputy President said some leaders were reading politics in every step taken to
reform IEBC.
Malava MP Malulu Injendi and local leaders led the delegation.
Turbo MP Elijah Busienei and Uasin-Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago were also present.
“The selection panel followed the due process in selecting the commissioners and we should accept the outcome of the process,” said Ruto.
The Deputy President said the manner in which the Opposition was now opposing the list of the new IBEC Commissioners showed that it did not want anything smoothly done.
The Deputy President told people of Western Kenya to stop dilly-dallying on their political future urging them to join Jubilee that was assured of victory come the August elections.
“I ask you to come and join us. We do not want you to do guesswork as you did in 2013 then wait for us to finish the job and come and claim a stake. Let’s move together in this
journey,” said Ruto.
He said Jubilee was committed to forming an all inclusive team to serve Kenyans.
Ruto said the country needed to do away with politics based on tribal and regional outfits saying Jubilee was committed to the unity of the country.
“We are focused on the unity of Kenyans and this is why I ask you to join us in taking this country to the next level,” said Ruto.
He praised New Ford Kenya which dissolved like URP and TNA.
Injendi said the Luhya community was ready to work with the Jubilee Administration saying he was optimistic that it will win the August elections.
The MP said Kenyans should read the writings on the wall and come to terms to the fact that Jubilee will win the elections going by the development projects it has initiated across the country.
Other leaders said they will campaign for Jubilee Party in Western Kenya.
