President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked the Opposition to give Kenyans room to elect their leaders without intimidation.
He said the country will not allow a few individuals with vested political interests to interfere with the electoral process.
“We must have peaceful, free and transparent elections next year. This issue of every time when we have elections some people try to hold the country hostage must stop,” President Kenyatta said.
The President added that the elections are for the over 40 million Kenyans not just a few people who want to advance their narrow and selfish intentions by trying to cause chaos every time we have elections.”
President Kenyatta was speaking today after he in inaugurated the Volkswagen production facility at the Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers in Thika town.
He said Kenyans are tired of the retrogressive politics propagated by the Opposition, saying their attempts to delay elections so that they could get a ‘half loaf’ government will not work.
“We want an election that will enable Kenyans to form the Government that they want and no body will prevent that,” President Kenyatta said.
President Kenyatta observed that the country has always held elections after every five years since independence and next year will not be different.
Saying the country will not be built by the insults and divisive politics of the Opposition, President Kenyatta vowed to continue with his work of developing the country.
“I will neither stop nor be discouraged by they noise and insults peddle by a few individuals because we know that every market has its own mad man,” the President said.
Other speakers included Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, Senator Kimani Wamatangi and Thika Town Member of Parliament Alice Ng’ang’a who said Jubilee will not sit back and watch some disrespectful Opposition legislators insult the President.
